On December 17, 2008, a convoy of fifteen
Toyota Tundra pick-up trucks drove down Galloway
Street and delivered food to
Philabundance’s South Philadelphia warehouse. For the second year in
a row, the truck beds were filled with the nonperishable food
that was collected during a five-week long food drive
organized by the Tri-State Toyota Dealers of Greater
Philadelphia, South Jersey and northern Delaware. Special guests who
supported the event were Philadelphia Flyers legend and
Stanley Cup Champion Bob “The Hound” Kelly, Philadelphia
Phillies play-by-play announcers Tom McCarthy and Scott
Franzke and Phillies pitcher Mitch Williams. Also adding to the
excitement were team mascots the Phillie Phanatic and 76ers
HipHop who helped unload food from the trucks. To date, the Tri-State
TDA has donated close to 13,000 lbs of food to
Philabundance. Running from the week of November 12 through
December 16, all who walked through the Toyota
dealership doors were encouraged to participate in the holiday
food collection. The food was generously donated by Toyota
customers and staff at local area dealerships. Their efforts
resulted in food on the table for families in need during the
holiday season.“In
this struggling economy, the generosity of our customers and
staff in this food drive is great. The Tri-State Toyota
Dealers Association is again proud to be involved in
supporting Philabundance and families in need this holiday
season. We plan to make our involvement an annual effort to positively show
our support in the community, and increase our food donations
each year,” stated Paul Muller, Toyota Dealers Association
President. “Philabundance is experiencing a serious food
shortage, as food donations are down 32 percent compared to
this time last year, while the number of families seeking food
assistance is on the rise,” said Bill Clark, president and executive
director, Philabundance. “We are thankful to the Tri-State
Toyota Dealers Association for helping to bring in the much
needed food that will help families in the Delaware Valley
this holiday season.” To obtain more information on Toyota
